JEFF HILL BAND- UNRELEASED DEMOS

COULD SHE DANCE?
YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO
WHY?
YOU KEEP TELLING ME LIES
SO SORRY TO BORE YOU
THEY CALL HIM A DREAMER
JUST LIKE SUZIE

The Jeff Hill band were active in the U.K. from 1977 to 1980. In that time they put out 2 GREAT singles. The first, on Chiswick features Jeff Hill backed by some session players and the second on the bands own DIY 'Balloon' label.( soon to be reissued on Sing Sing ) Featured Jeff Hill on guitar and vocals, Dave Buckley on drums and vocals and Ray Humphries on bass. Both records are great and worth tracking down. When we approached Jeff and Dave about the possibility of re-releasing the 'Somethings Wrong With My Baby' single Dave gave me a disc of demos, recorded on both a 4 track TEAC and a Revox machine. the tracks are culled from practices in the basement of their then manager Keith Roberts hair salon and a practice in a local village hall. The recordings are raw, and the stellar songwriting of both Dave and Jeff and the tight musicianship of the group can really be heard here. These recordings, in addition to the previously unreleased stuff on the LDK Lp (amazing and worth tracking down) prove that this band was a force to be reckoned with and given the opportunity, would have made a legendary LP.
For further info on the group there is a thorough history of the band, written by Dave Buckley here

  1. They cover my favourite Byrds' song. Can't argue with that.

  3. Great stuff in fact! So if there are even more unreleased tracks, are you likely to release them at some point? If not, are you able to post them here?
