THE NAMES - WHY CAN'T IT BE b/w BABY YOU'RE A FOOL
1. WHY CAN'T IT BE
2. BABY YOU'RE A FOOL
1977. Fiction Records, F-99.
Originally known as The Nicknames, The Names were from Chicago, IL and released just one single. The b-side is good beatles-esque power pop.

This one was a 10p staple in Virgins all over the UK, along with "Don't You Worry" by Needles 'n' Pins, the Churchmice and Kack Klick singles, Luchs Brothers...
ReplyDeleteAh, those were the days!
its still a really inexpensive 45. I see it alot in NYC. Never saw it ONCE in the 5 years I lived in Chicago..
ReplyDeleteI remember picking this one up at Rough Trade in 1977...I always prefered the B side. Perhaps Bomp equating it to the Flamin' Groovies had something to do with it. Am I right in thinking there was a hard card version of the sleeve? The one I picked up 3 years ago is paper
ReplyDeleteall the copies i've seen are paper
ReplyDeleteThese guys were also "The Clowns" in the movie Terror on Tour. I've got a recording of them playing live in Rockford, IL from 1980 (w/ different drummer) if you ever wanna hear it. They sounded a LOT more like Cheap Trick at the time.
ReplyDeleteI always liked the b-side better too...I wrote it. lol!!! Thanks for the attention guys I love your taste in music.
ReplyDeleteDave Galluzzo
